Reflexology

The ultimate treat for your feet with added health benefits. A combination of massage and reflex pressure point therapy. Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the person as a whole, as well as addressing the symptoms. Reflexology has a history over several thousands of years dating back to ancient Egypt, India, and China and has been attributed with relieving many emotional and physical symptoms.

In 1913 Dr William Fitzgerald introduced 'zone therapy'. He introduced the concept that areas on the feet and hands had a link to the body and its systems and organs. In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed this theory into what is now known as Reflexology and she noted that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

This treatment is very versatile, it can induce deep relaxation or have a stimulating effect on the body and mind. If it is the right treatment for you the results can be impressive.  Reflexology is especially beneficial for addressing stress related problems that have become physical, for example IBS, headaches, muscular and joint pains. The treatment takes an hour during which your feet are massaged to help them to relax and then various pressures are applied to specific points on the feet and ankles, these points relate to certain areas of the body.

The therapist will discuss with you the findings of the treatment at the end of each session.

Having your feet treated is a tranquil experience for most people and it has the added benefits of having a re-balancing effect on mind and body, helping to maintain the body's natural equilibrium.

It is recommended to complete a course of reflexology treatment for your specific condition. Many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being. Although many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing and counteracting stress, alongside this many doctors, consultants and health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well-established, respected and effective therapy.

Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:

- Back Pain

- Migraine

- Arthritis

- Sleep disorders

- Hormonal imbalances

- Sports injuries

- Digestive disorders

- Stress-related conditions

Therapeutic Massage

This is a form of massage with light-moderate pressure with the aim to induce deep relaxation, stress relief, and a sense of well-being. This is accomplished with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. It is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Studies of this type of massage have shown significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol and increases in the number of lymphocytes (white blood cells) that are part of the immune system, showing a boost in immunity to help fight colds and the flu.

Techniques include effleurage, firm kneading, percussion, and skin rolling techniques. Communication is encouraged with your professional massage therapist so that your treatment is customised to your own specific requirements. This treatment can also incorporate essential oils to enhance the treatment effect.
